Andrew Halls

Andrew Halls is Headmaster of Whitgift for the 2024-25 academic year and is responsible to the John Whitgift Foundation and School Committee for the strategic direction and overall success of the School.

Andrew read English at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and began his teaching career in 1981. He previously taught English at Whitgift from 1984 – 1988, before leading two major Independent Schools: Magdalen College School, Oxford (1998-2008), and King’s College School, Wimbledon (2008-2021). After his retirement from headship in 2021, he was elected Honorary Principal of King’s College International School, Bangkok.

 

Andrew is married to Véronique, a French teacher, and they have two grown-up daughters. He has a broad interest in UK education and was at one point a weekly columnist for the Sunday Times. In 2020, he was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for services to education.
